Office furniture decommissioning project

Large-Scale Office Furniture Decommissioning & Reuse

Overview

RDI completed a large-scale office furniture decommissioning project involving 477 workstations. Rather than treating every piece of furniture as waste, the team carefully disassembled, sorted, relocated, and staged furniture and components for future reuse and inventory.

The project demonstrates how organized decommissioning can help clients recover value from existing workplace assets while efficiently clearing a space.

Project Details

  • Scope: Office furniture decommissioning
  • Workstations Disassembled: 477
  • Workstations Staged for Reuse: 106
  • Workstations Added to Inventory: 30
  • Workstations Loaded for Disposal: 341, minus saved components
  • Foreman: Paul Meyer
  • Dealer: Modern Business Interiors

The Challenge

A large office space needed to be cleared of hundreds of workstations. With 477 workstations involved, the project required more than simply dismantling furniture and loading trucks.

Furniture and components needed to be evaluated and separated based on their future use, including items designated for reuse, inventory, and disposal.

The Approach

RDI’s crew systematically disassembled all 477 workstations and organized the furniture according to its next destination.

The team:

  • Disassembled 477 workstations
  • Relocated and staged 106 workstations for future reuse
  • Saved and staged additional components for reuse
  • Relocated 30 workstations for inventory
  • Loaded 341 workstations for disposal, less components retained for future use

This approach allowed the client to recover usable furniture and components rather than treating the entire project as a disposal job.

The Result

RDI successfully cleared the workplace while separating hundreds of workstations and components for their appropriate next use.

The project resulted in 106 workstations staged for reuse and another 30 added to inventory, while the remaining furniture was prepared for disposal.

For large-scale decommissioning projects, the value isn’t always in what ends up on the truck. It’s also in what can be saved, recovered, and put to work again.

Decommissioning With a Plan

Large furniture decommissioning projects require organization from the first workstation to the final truckload. RDI provides the crews and project coordination needed to dismantle, sort, relocate, stage, and dispose of commercial furniture efficiently.

Clear the space. Recover what you can. Prepare for what’s next.
